Myrrh three kings
Three gifts are explicitly identified in Matthew: gold, frankincense and myrrh. In Koine Greek these are chrysós (χρυσός), líbanos (λίβανος) and smýrna (σμύρνα). Many different theories of the meaning and symbolism of the gifts have been brought forward. While gold is fairly obviously explained, frankincense, and particularly myrrh, are more obscure. Gold has kept its value for more than 2,000 years. In early December, the market price for an ounce of gold was $1,781.50, but today, frankincense and myrrh aren’t the commodities they once were.
